New plans for a solution to the traffic “nightmare” at one of the area’s most notorious junctions will go on show to the public next week.

The Highways Agency (HA) will present a number of options for Bisham roundabout on the A404 near Marlow – one of the busiest commuter routes in the region.

A previous £1.8million scheme for a dedicated left turn slip road to Bisham was scrapped after complaints it would make life more difficult for cars trying to enter the roundabout from the Bisham turning.

The consultation on the new plans will go on show in the village next Friday and Saturday and will present three choices for a redesign.

They are:

  • Option 1: Partial Signalised Roundabout
  • Option 2: Left In/Left Out
  •  Option 3: Signalised Junction

The junction was selected as part of the Government's 'Pinch Point' programme of the worst blackspots nationally for congestion.

An HA spokesman said: "Road users experience high levels of congestion and delays at the Bisham roundabout every day and the roundabout is already operating at or above capacity on a regular basis.

"We will take on board all responses to the consultation before deciding on the option to be taken forward to detailed design and construction."

Villagers took their concerns on the previous scheme to Home Secretary Theresa May before it was dropped.

Residents claim that they are forced to take their life into their hands daily to get onto the roundabout from Bisham, with two lanes of near-constant cross traffic.

Bisham Parish Council has previously rejected proposals for 24-hour traffic lights at the busy junction, complaining the signals would have an “appalling impact” on the picturesque village surroundings.

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, which partly controls the stretch of road, also objected to the original traffic light option.

A major dual carriageway, the A404 is congested with commuter traffic at peak times crossing the busy roundabout with no speed restrictions except the national limit.

The plans will go on show at Bisham Abbey Sports Centre on Friday, June 19 from 1pm to 8pm and at Bisham Primary School on Saturday, June 20 from 9am to 1pm.

The consultation period will finish on Saturday 12 September 2015.

Full details of the proposed options will also be available on the scheme webpage www.highways.gov.uk/a404bisham from next Friday.
