Supermarket staff in High Wycombe has announced that they will raise money for a charity in memory of a teenager who died from a rare tumour in 2007.
The charity was started by 15-year-old Holmer Green Senior School student Rob Holland after he was diagnosed with a rare teenage tumour, and it will now be boosted by Sainsbury’s, in Oxford Road.
RobsARTTT (a rate teenage tumour trust) has continued to try and raise money charity eight years after Rob passed away, and have so far collected more than £185,000.
Rob’s mum, Amanda Dunkerton, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be chosen as the Sainsbury’s High Wycombe Local Charity of Year.
“We can’t wait to work together and raise the profile of our charity over the next year. Thank you to all the customers that voted for us, we really appreciate the support.
“Robs’ vision was to raise awareness and funding into research surrounding DSCRT in the hope of giving sufferers a greater quality of life and ultimately finding an effective treatment of a disease which so tragically took my 15 year old son.”
High Wycombe residents were invited to vote for the supermarket charity of the year and RobsARTTT finished above other charity suggestions Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and Wycombe Youth Action.
To celebrate the announcement, a launch day will take place at the High Wycombe store on Friday, July 31.
On this day, customers will get a chance to meet representatives from the charity and learn more about the work they do.
