A police constable from High Wycombe has been named Community Officer of the Year for the Thames Valley.

PC Andrew Smith was given the top honour at the Community Policing Awards on Wednesday night at Eynsham Hall in Oxfordshire.

He covers the Castlefield and Oakridge Areas and was nominated by residents and police partners for his work.

Chief Constable Francis Habgood said: "His commitment to Castlefield can be seen on a personal as well as professional level.

"Without request he regularly changes his duties so that he can personally deal with issues.

"PC Smith is described by colleagues as "an absolute credit to Thames Valley Police.

"He is widely liked, trusted and respected and I have no hesitation in nominating him for formal recognition."

The awards, now in their fourteenth year, recognise the special efforts of Thames Valley Police’s neighbourhood policing teams and the positive impact they have on communities.

PC Smith was named winner of his category, with community support officers, special constables and volunteers receiving their own awards.

Ch Con Habgood said: "I am delighted to be able to recognise the outstanding work of our officers, staff, and volunteers.

"Our neighbourhood teams are the main point of contact for most members of the public. They engage, listen and respond to the community and our nominees have all demonstrated this to an outstanding level.

"I am very proud of their contribution."
