Olympic stars and champions past and present will gather when Marlow Rowing Club will open its new state-of-the-art HQ next weekend, after a devastating fire destroyed the clubhouse four years ago.
Special guests will make appearances at the grand opening of the riverside Watersports Hub on Saturday, September 19, including club president Sir Steve Redgrave, international rowing coach Mike Spracklen and Olympians Katherine Grainger, Zac Purchase and Naomi Riches.
The following day the club will open its doors to the public between 11am-3pm where people will be shown round the new facilities and will get the chance to try their hand at rowing, canoeing and kayaking.
Watersports Hub members will be on hand to share their expert knowledge and sign up any new members.
The club raised £1 million through sponsors as well as an additional £1m grant from Sport England, which together paid for the re-build after the historic boat house was burnt to the ground in 2011.
Charlotte Peters, from Marlow Rowing Club said: “The new construction is not only the home of Marlow Rowing Club but also a water sports hub providing a world-class community sports facility for rowing and sculling, para-rowing, canoeing, para-canoeing, triathlon and open water swimming.
“The hub facilities will give the opportunity for young people, adults and people with disabilities to learn or take part in all these water sports.”
The partner clubs of the Water Sports Hub include Row2Recovery Rowing Club, Marlow Canoe Club, Longridge Canoe Club, and the Henley Open Water Swimming Club.
