A south Bucks race is pledging to donate thousands of pounds from its annual October event to a Wycombe based hospice.

The organisers of the South Bucks 10K, which has been run since 2009, have chosen to donate proceeds from this year’s event to the South Bucks Hospice, which provides palliative care and support to people with incurable diseases.

The road race, commencing on October 4, usually attracts between 250 and 300 runners every year and was started initially as a fundraiser for a small running group; however Race bosses have decided to donate 2015 race profits to the hospice.

Race secretary Fred Ashford said: “The race itself has manifested itself from simple beginnings. A group of local runners started the popular park run over at Black Park in 2009.

“In order to generate a small working fund, we established a 10k race held in early October. It has proved a success and now generates more than the small amount we set out to achieve. We decided that any surplus to our needs would be donated to a nominated charity.

“This is the first year to nominate a charity and the ‘South Bucks’ identity tag seemed to bring the race and the Hospice fundraising together.”

Hospice Chief Executive Jo Woolf has thanked the race committee and appealed for runners to help raise further funds by raising sponsorship money: She said: “We are absolutely thrilled by this gesture from the race committee. Any money raised will be of enormous benefit to patients with life-limiting conditions.

“Money will go to fund nursing care and also to help us with our project to build fantastic new premises in South Bucks. I can’t thank the road race committee enough for thinking of us.”

The race route covers two laps of quiet lanes to the side of Black Park touching on Fulmer and Wexham Street, and all finishers will receive a medal and goody bag.

Entry fees are £12, with a £2 discount being given to affiliated club runners. Registration is open until Monday the 28th of September, and there will be an entry fee of £3 on the day.
