A homeless charity is seeking more volunteers to join a ‘big sleepout’ in High Wycombe, giving residents a taste of what life is like on the streets.

Dozens of people have already signed up for the Wycombe Homeless Connection event, to be held in All Saints churchyard on Friday, November 20, but there is still space for more people.

As well as raising awareness, the Castle Street-based charity hope volunteers will also donate vital funds.

WHC chairman of trustees, Sheena Dykes, said: “There’s currently a lot of interest in homelessness, so we invite folk to rise to the challenge of taking part in our Big Sleepout.

“It will be cold and it will be dark – but it will also give a great insight into what it might be like to sleep rough.

“That said, we’re planning a very safe night with some fun too, and hot drinks will be available all night for those who need it.”

Amongst the people to sleep outside for the night will be 27-year-old Georgia Romeril, who is going to write a weekly blog for The Bucks Free Press about her mixed feelings in advance of the event.

She said: “I have a choice to do this for one night, but a surprising number of local people have to do it every night.

The event is open to over-16s (there is limited space for 16 and 17-year-olds accompanied by an adult). For details about entry and sponsorship visit www.wyhoc.org.uk
