A MULTI-STOREY car park that could have seen the end to Marlow’s traffic nightmare has been delayed, after the council dismissed the "excessive" cost.

Marlow's Business Improvement District – a partnership of industry and company leaders in the town's business parks - commissioned a study earlier this year to find a solution to the clogged streets that plagued Globe Park and the surrounding area.

And although Wycombe District Council will not release the figure, business park manager Ronnie Fleming said it is ‘way out of the ball park’ for the council, prolonging Marlow’s traffic woes.

However Mr Fleming is confident that car park will go ahead, although it may take a while for the council to investigate what can be done to make the figure more accessible.

He said: “It’s going but it’s going very slowly. We would like to see it move along more quickly as parking is nightmare at the moment especially for delivery trucks.”

Thousands of cars pour into the the Fieldhouse Lane area each day heading to work on the business site, and it was hoped that a multi storey would ease congestion and provide parking for tourists visiting the town, as well as workers elsewhere in town.

Despite the delay, WDC says it is confident that a multi storey car park would be the best answer to Marlow’s parking nightmare and a solution could be in place as early as the end of this year.

Spokesman Sue Robinson said: “We are looking at ways to alleviate the parking and a multi story car park does seem like the best solution.

“There is space for flat parking, however if you increase it upwards then it will provide so many more spaces.

“We are working with the BID to find ways to improve parking at Globe Park and are in discussions with the County Council and the Globe BID Company to explore practical and timely ways we could help alleviate on-street parking.”

The council will carry out further design and cost analysis and hope to report back to the BID later this year.
