A man and a woman from St Albans appeared in court today over slavery charges.
Johnny Murphy, 25, and Shanon Loweridge, 22, both of Watford Road have been charged with knowingly holding a person in slavery or servitude and knowlingly require another person to perform forced labour in St Albans between April 2010 and September 2014.
The pair, who appeared at St Albans Magistrates Court, were arrested in March 2015 following reports of potential human trafficking taking place at an address in St Albans.
The case has been sent to trial. Mr Murphy and Ms Loweridge will next appear at St Albans Crown Court on November 10.
