Health risks have forced a High Wycombe supermarket to close, with shocked shoppers reporting that rats had been seen running on shelves.
The Midcounties Co-operative in Cressex voluntarily closed last week, with bosses now working alongside environmental health services to ensure that they can re-open in the future.
Staff at the Squirrel Lane supermarket have not confirmed the reason behind the closure and health scare, but residents have reported that there has been a rat problem.
One shopper told the Bucks Free Press that a rat was seen on a shelf in the store.
When questioned if this was the reason behind the closure, a spokesman said they could not confirm or deny the circumstances behind the decision.
The Midcounties Co-operative spokesman, Jessica Dingley, said: “We have voluntarily closed our Squirrel Lane store and are working with Environmental Health to be able to re-open as soon as possible.”
