A new music pavilion was opened earlier this month at a primary school in Princes Risborough.
The pavilion at St John’s Church of England combined school was unveiled on Friday January 8, with the ribbon being cut by pupil Edie Vernol in front of parents and staff.
‘Project Lacey’ was masterminded by Clementine Blackmore as part of her Masters degree in Architecture.
Ms Blackmore’s work became a collaboration between architects, local business and the community to produce the outdoor space for musical performance.
The pavilion won the SustainRCA award for ‘Visionary Processes’ – an award for “honouring creative methods and systems that produce a positive rather than negative impact on the world.”
It was commended for utilising local expertise as part of the construction process. The lattice-structure was prototyped and fabricated at Grysmdyke Farm, an architecture firm in the village.
Phase two of the project will see the enclosure of the space as an interior classroom, with a view to completion in the summer.
