Shocking pictures have revealed the extent of the damage caused by arsonists who burgled a community shop then set fire to it.

The Hughenden Valley Community Shop, in Coombe Lane, was targeted early on Saturday, March 5 and the fire brigade and police were called at around 6.25am by a volunteer who had arrived to open up for the day.

Manager of the shop, Louise Jones, told the Bucks Free Press earlier this week that she was “completely devastated” by the attack, which saw frozen food, sandwiches and washing powder stolen before the shop was set alight.

The once thriving and busy shop - the only one in Hughenden and described as a "lifeline" for elderly residents - now lays empty, with the charred products still on the shelves.

The volunteers has been forced to close the shop doors until a temporary replacement building can be found.

Police have now confirmed they are investigating the incident and appealed for anyone with information to call Thames Valley Police on 101.
