A BMW driver had a lucky escape when his car caught fire near a retail park in High Wycombe this afternoon.
The incident occurred at around 3.23pm on Ryemead Way at the junction of London Road.
Reports from the scene suggest that the driver - a man - was with a boy who was believed to have been celebrating his sixth birthday.
Onlookers described how the pair managed to escape the smoking vehicle shortly before it burst into flames.
The problem is thought to be caused by a faulty electrical box.
Police were on the scene and an eye witness reported that an officer took care of the "shocked" boy, offering to buy him and the man a drink.
There were no reports of anyone injured and firefighters left the scene shortly after 3.45pm.
Traffic is reported to be backing up around Wycombe Marsh.
