The county's top politican has voiced support for the BFP's campaign to save one of Wycombe’s most famous landmarks, saying the iconic sight "must stay".
Martin Tett tweeted his backing for the renovation of Red Lion in High Street, after the BFP revealed it is so badly damaged that the statue could be lost forever.
Cllr Tett said: “Memories of the Lion from visits with my parents long ago. Must stay. Another 'stone in the road' for Bucks.”
The Red Lion, which overlooks Wycombe’s marketplace, has faced years of neglect.
The crumbling town centre relic has been considered a landmark of High Wycombe for more than a century, and was made famous as the backdrop of Winston Churchill’s post-Second World War speech.
From this week, the Bucks Free Press is asking readers to support our call for action to ensure the iconic High Street figure is given a new lease of life and maintained for years to come.
The director of Wycombe Museum, chairman of the High Wycombe Society, and the town's mayor are among those who have pledged to see the Red Lion restored to its former glory.
