A new cricket pavilion and community room will be opening this Bank Holiday weekend in Widmer End.

The opening of the new building, which will be home to St. Margarets Cricket Club and Widmer End Village Hall Committee, will take place on Monday May 2.

The project was supported by the England & Wales Cricket Board, The Buckinghamshire Community Foundation, the Residents Association and Wycombe District Council via Cllr David Carroll.

Speaking on behalf of the cricket club and the village hall Laurie Johnson, Treasurer, said: "This is an important project for both the cricket club and the village hall.

“It will provide improved facilities for the club with the hope of attracting more members, and also create a small meeting room for local groups as the main village hall is fully utilised.

“The project has involved a considerable amount of voluntary effort especially by John Hatt of Prestwood Property who, as a club member, has given freely of his time and expertise.

“We are delighted to dedicate the new room to the memory of John's late father Harold with whom I had the pleasure of playing cricket many years ago."

Enquiries about joining the cricket club or hiring the room should be directed to Laurie Johnson on 07561335901 or e-mail wevh@aol.com.
