A conservative councillor will be weighed-in as the new mayor of High Wycombe this month.

Councillor for Sands, Zia Ahmed, is expected to take the chains from the current mayor Cllr Mohammed Hanif of the Labour party at the official ceremony on Saturday, May 21.

The annual weighing-in ceremony is well known in Wycombe as residents get to see if politicians and dignitaries have been overindulging during their time in office.

The ceremony will begin at the Guildhall with the mayor and his predecessor taking to the scales in Frogmoor in front of crowds of residents.

Cllr Maz Hussain of the Disraeli ward is set to serve as Cllr Ahmed’s deputy.

Cllr Hanif said: “I have had a brilliant time. It was very fulfilling experience and I am very grateful to have had the opportunity.

“I would like to wish the incoming mayor all the best for the coming year.”

The mayor is set to attend a charity dinner at John Hampden school this weekend which will be his final fundraising event in post.
