As police begin a week-long crackdown targeting drivers who use their mobile phones while driving, the BFP asks - do you ever do it?

It is illegal to use a mobile phone without a hands-free kit while at the wheel - even while queuing in traffic.

If you’re the driver, you can only use your phone in a vehicle if safely parked, or if you need to call 999 or 112 in an emergency and it’s unsafe or impractical to stop.

Despite the offence carrying a fine and penalty points, it is all too common to see drivers checking their messages or using social media while stopped at the traffic lights or even while driving on the motorway.
