Staff at Buckinghamshire County Council took part in a minute's silence to remember victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting.

A congregation on the steps of County Hall, Aylesbury, at 11am today saw council leader Martin Tett give a short speech in support of the LGBT community.

He said: “Thanks to everybody for coming this morning to remember the 49 people killed in the atrocity in Orlando.

"Our thoughts are with their family and friends at this tragic time.

"It is important to remember that this was not just a terrorist attack but also a hate crime against a key section of the community not just in America but across the world."

It comes after top councillors pledged their support for a gay pride event which took in place in Oxford earlier this month.
