Serving soldiers and veterans will commemorate 300 years of the Royal Artillery with a service at the High Wycombe Cemetery on Friday, to coincide with Armed Forces Day on Saturday.

There are believed to be 12 gunners' graves in the cemetery on Priory Road of soldiers from south Bucks who served in the different world wars.

Serving solders from 12 regiments of the royal artillery will take part in the service at 10:45am, which will be led by rev Chris Bull, County Chaplain to Buckinghamshire Royal British Legion.

They will be joined by the chairman of the Wycombe & District branch of the Royal Artillery Association, Stuart Reid, High Wycombe mayor Zia Ahmed and chairman of Wycombe District Council (WDC), cllr Mahboob Hussain.

Wreaths will be laid on the graves by Mr Reid on behalf of the Royal Artillery Association, cllr Hussain on behalf of WDC and cllr Ahmed on behalf of the community.

Mr Reid said: “It is important for us to remember the people who have died in these conflicts."

After the service, six serving soldiers and six veteran soldiers will lay a posy of poppies on each of the 12 graves in the cemetery.
