A south Bucks university student has been recognised for his innovative vision of an island on the Thames.

Tim Matthews, 22, an interior and spatial design student at Bucks New University received a certificate and £250 from Bourne End-based office refurbishment company space-pod for his design concept.

Mr Matthews said: "I am extremely proud that all of my hard work has been recognised by such a well-respected company."

The prize was presented by space-pod spokesman Fi Matheson who said they were “particularly impressed” with Tim’s concept.

She said: “He embraced multi-disciplinary spatial design practices to integrate architecture, landscape design, and service design.”

Course leader David Barras said: “Many thanks to Fi Mathieson for attending our show and presenting the space-pod prize to Tim Matthews – he is a very deserving winner.”

Spatial design is a new discipline that allows designers to plan how spaces look, feel and function. It crosses the boundaries of traditional design fields such as architecture, landscape architecture, landscape design and interior design.
