An annual school music festival in High Wycombe has been hailed as the “biggest yet” with a “better than ever” line-up of home grown talent.

Kite Ridge School in Verney Avenue, which supports students with learning difficulties, held its two-day Kitefest event earlier this month for the fifth year running, with groups performing from schools across the county.

Performances included a street dance act and workshop by High Wycombe instructor Lewis Haywood, as well as various singing and dancing acts by pupils from Chiltern Wood School, also in Verney Avenue, Stoney Dean School in Amersham, Alfriston School in Beaconsfield and Cressex School in High Wycombe.

Kite Ridge staff also showed off their drumming skills at the event, and home grown cover band The Deps, from Beaconsfield, headlined the show, bringing “the house down” with their “uplifting songs”.

Head teacher Steven Sneesby said the performance by The Deps brought mainstream and special school students in Bucks together “to enjoy shared experiences based around performance and creativity.”

He said: "This was our biggest KiteFest yet and the festival is growing year on year.

“The aim of the festival is to break down barriers between mainstream and special school students through shared performance and creativity.

“Next year we hope to be able to include more students from mainstream schools.”
