Students at The Highcrest Academy are celebrating after the High Wycombe school recorded a 100 per cent pass rate at A level.

They also achieved a 100 per cent pass rate at university-level BTECs - with 80 per cent obtaining at least a Merit, and nearly half earning a Distinction or Distinction Star.

The star of the show was head boy Joe Yan, 18, from High Wycombe achieved an A* in Maths, an A in Further Maths and a B in Chinese - despite only coming to England from China five years ago when he couldn't speak a word of English.

Joe is going to the University of Bath to study Maths. He said: “Highcrest has done everything for me. I could not wish for better teachers. I came here aged 13 not being able to speak any English and just five years later, I am going to university with excellent A Level grades, so I am very proud, and grateful to Highcrest for everything they have done for me.”

Head Girl Olivia Sutherland, 18, achieved an A* in Psychology, B in English Literature and B in Religious Studies. She said: “I am extremely happy with all the support I have had over the years at Highcrest and I couldn’t have done this without the support of my amazing teachers.”

Assistant Headteacher Sam Holdsworth said: “The results are fantastic, and the increased number of A* grades compared to last year really stand out. We are all really proud of the students who have worked so hard to achieve this.”

Josh Smith, 18, achieved an A in Maths, B in Further Maths and B in Chemistry. He is hoping to go Greenwich to study Maths. Josh said: “I am over the moon – these are better than I thought I could get. They are absolutely fantastic. I am the first person in my family to go to university – my family have told me they are really proud.”

Saarah Mohammed, 18, achieved an A* in Sociology, a Distinction star in Health and Social care and a C in Art. She said: “I am very happy overall. I was quite unwell throughout the whole exam period. I am really proud of the results and I can’t wait to tell my family.”

Anisa Jehangir, 18, achieved an A* in Psychology and an A* in Sociology. She said: “I can’t believe how good my results are. Last year I had two Bs and I am shocked you can go from Bs to A*s like this.” She is going to Oxford Brookes to study Psychology. She added: “I am thrilled and proud, especially because the content was so hard to get your head around and there was so much to learn.”

Nathan Stanley, 17, from High Wycombe, achieved A grades in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry. He said: “I wasn’t expecting to get As in all of them - I was expecting to get Bs in Chemistry and Further Maths. I feel happy. It’s hard to describe.”
