Fears are growing over the hidden dangers lurking in the streets of High Wycombe after members of the public were attacked with knives, stun guns and hammers in a series of shocking random attacks.

A series of manhunts are underway for the attackers – believed to be ranging in age from 18 to late twenties – following the most recent spate of attacks in the town centre revealed this week.

The shocking incidents include an attempted robbery – during which a man was threatened with a hammer - just metres from High Wycombe station where the victim was threatened with a hammer and a suspected triple shooting across the town.

Superintendent Ed McLean has assured residents that Thames Valley Police are investigating incidents – which they do not believe are linked.

He said: “We are in the process of carrying out thorough investigations into these incidents, which we do not believe are linked in any way.

“We are working tirelessly to trace and arrest those responsible and we have dedicated significant specialist resources to these investigations.”

MP for High Wycombe, Steve Baker, said he understands these attacks would concern residents across town but does not believe there is a trend of crime forming.

He said: “The first thing is it is of course to acknowledge that people are worried and I know that they are and I live here in Wycombe so I share their concerns.

“What everyone must do is report every concern to the police and I have got total confidence that our police commander and police team in Wycombe will take any incident like this extremely seriously and pursue it to conclusion every time that is possible.”

Police are also investigating a daylight robbery where a man was threatened by two thieves with a knife in an alleyway and a separate incident during which two men attempted to assault a man with stun guns before stealing his bag.

Anyone who has any information about the attacks has been asked to contact police via 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
