A town centre building of ‘historic significance’ could become student accommodation, after plans were given the green light at a planning meeting last night.

Councillors unanimously voted to convert The Clock House building in Frogmoor, High Wycombe, into student housing at a meeting of Wycombe District Council’s planning committee.

Another application to turn it into serviced ‘hotel’ apartments for short to medium term lets was also approved at the meeting.

The application for student housing came after permission was granted in 2012 but not implemented, and had since expired.

In January 2014, the council received a complaint that the development was not being undertaken in accordance with places approved under the initial planning application, which meant the work being carried out was unauthorised.

The council issued a temporary stop notice to prevent any more work being carried out.

The student accommodation would provide 32 rooms with associated shared space such as kitchens, living spaces, laundry rooms and various store rooms.

The serviced apartments would have 37 rooms, a reception area, staff office, laundry rooms and various storage rooms.

A bar or lounge area would not be provided.

There is also a dental practice on the site, which will remain unaffected, and on-site parking will be shared with the practice.
