An “energetic” centenarian with “lots of character” marked her 100th birthday in Beaconsfield last week by celebrating with friends, family and the town’s mayor.

Eileen Robinson was born in Cardiff on March 2, 1917, before spending the majority of her younger years in Plymouth where she met her husband of 50 years, Raymond Robinson, who she described as the “love of her life”.

She spent many of her summer holidays with Raymond travelling as many European countries as she could.

Eileen also told the Bucks Free Press of her once in a lifetime trip where she spent three months of 1953 visiting 15 states across the US, meeting relatives she had never set eyes on.

Raymond’s sudden death five years ago caused Eileen’s move to The Hollies in Beaconsfield, which is sheltered housing accommodation.

Her only son Nicholas, born from a previous marriage, along with his wife, took Eileen out to lunch at the Brasserie Blanc where she was presented with a bouquet of flowers and a card from Raymond Blanc, the restaurant owner.

Eileen said: “It was a very good show. I was sent a lovely birthday card and received the biggest bunch of flowers I have ever seen in my life.”

Eileen also has two grandsons and one granddaughter.

Weekly sessions at the Curzon Centre, Maxwell Road, Beaconsfield, are easily accessible for Eileen as the centre is just minutes from where she currently resides at the Hollies.

The group had never celebrated a 100th birthday, so Eileen was treated to a big birthday cake and a visit from the mayor of Beaconsfield, cllr Patrick Hogan.

Son Nicholas also had Eileen’s birthday card from Her Majesty the Queen framed, which hangs alongside many more of Eileen’s wonderful memories.
