An arts festival showcasing the best classical talent Wycombe has to offer will launch this weekend.

The 53rd annual Wycombe Arts Festival will start on Saturday, April 29, offering a range of events “to suit every taste” across the Wycombe and Marlow areas until June 4.

Events include a performance from The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Wycombe Sinfonia, Chiltern Camarata and the Chiltern Music Academy as well as folk and jazz evenings.

Drama will also be presented by the Fourways Theatre Company, treating audiences to an outdoor performance of Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice.

A classical concert from High Wycombe Choral Society will mark the launch of the event alongside the Wingrave Singers, Colin Spinks and the West Forest Sinfonia.

A variety of numbers including Mendelssohn’s Ave Maria and Schubert’s Mass in E flat will be performed at All Saints Parish Church, in Church Square, from 7.30pm.

The month long festival will culminate with a performance from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra on June 4 from 7.30pm at The Swan Theatre in High Wycombe.

The annual May Fayre on Monday, May 1 is expected to be another popular event of the festival with more than 34 stalls and entertainment set to take over Holywell Mead on The Rye from 11am.

Art exhibitions, talks and presentations also feature on the eclectic timetable as well as guided walks and private viewings at National Trust sites.

Bucks Free Press columnist, Mike Dewey, will give a talk on the lesser-known grand houses of south Bucks on Wednesday May 3 from 2pm at High Wycombe Library in Eden Place.

Free brochures sharing full details of all the events are available in shops, libraries and tourist information centres, and churches across the district.

The event celebrated its 50th year in 2014 and the festival aims to bring a range of performing and visual arts to a wide audience across the district.

The festival not to be confused with the Wycombe Fringe Festival, also starting on April 29 running until May 28 provided an alternative take on the Arts Festival acts.
