More safety measures could be put in place on a Marlow industrial estate in a bid to stop the ongoing problem of “dangerous and indiscriminate” parking on the site.

Thousands of cars pour into the Fieldhouse Lane area each day heading to major employers on the Globe Business Park estate like Softcat, the Crowne Plaza hotel and the popular Marlow Club gym, causing traffic chaos.

Marlow businessman, Paul Deriaz, who is part of the Globe Park BID (Business Improvement District), said the parking problems on the estate have “got to a head”, and a six-month consultation will now be held on potential solutions.

More double yellow lines and some pay and display parking spaces could be introduced if the plans are given the nod.

At a meeting of the Marlow Chamber of Trade and Commerce, Mr Deriaz described some of the problems faced by tenants on the site.

He said: “Globe Park has been struggling with parking problems for the last few years. In particular there has been over-parking and difficulty getting in and out of the park.

“Over-parking causes congestion, stops the lorries getting to various office and industrial units, sometimes parking too close to junctions. That stops people getting reasonable visibility left and right.

“Some parking is inappropriate and pedestrians cannot move around the estate safely. There has been some dangerous and indiscriminate parking and really, this has got to a head.”

Businesses on the estate will now be approached with various proposals designed to “resolve” the issues.

These include more double yellow lines on Parkway near the old Cobham site and on Fieldhouse Lane.

Mr Deriaz added: “When you come down Parkway onto Fieldhouse Lane it gets particularly congested at that junction.

“At the same time, they are now wishing, in a formal way, to put in on-street parking blocks - mainly near Marlow International and various sections near the spurs off Fieldhouse Lane.

“Those are proposed as pay and display which is a new proposal and I'm sure the tenants on Globe Park will have something to say about that. But everyone is invited to have a say whether you are a tenant or not.”

Margaret McCarthy, chair of Globe Park BID said that the consultation may not necessarily take six months, with some proposals set to be submitted quicker due to “safety issues”.
