Armed police evacuated High Wycombe Railway Station this afternoon after a man was seen acting suspiciously on a train.

Dozens of officers and six police cars were at the scene, according to eyewitnesses, and a police cordon was set up while onlookers were urged to stand back from the station.

TVP confirmed the 2.55pm train from London Marylebone to Oxford made an unscheduled stop at High Wycombe, arriving at platform two at 3.20pm.

Chiltern Railways issued a post on Twitter saying the train line had been closed in both directions while the emergency services dealt with an incident.

Armed officers evacuated the train and other passengers were cleared from the platforms while two men were stopped and checked at the scene.

Both men were released following the enquiries and no arrests were made.

Police remained tight-lipped at the scene throughout, according to eyewitnesses. A taxi driver said: "Police just came in and said they were closing the station. We have no idea why, they won't tell us what is going on.

"We have been stuck here for two-and-a-half hours."

A woman, who was waiting outside the station for friends to arrive, added: "It is a mess. Police won't tell us what is going on."

The lines have reopened in both directions, according to Chiltern Railways, however delays are still expected.
