Three men from High Wycombe have been arrested after a woman suffered serious burns after having a liquid thrown at her in the town centre.

The 47-year-old woman had been sitting on a bench in Frogmoor on Saturday when she was approached by three males.

One of them squirted a liquid – which police at the time said could have been acid – onto her before they left the scene.

However they said today that tests indicated it was an “alkaline substance” but that enquiries are still ongoing.

The woman sustained serious injuries as a result, and was taken to hospital for treatment. She has since been discharged.

Two men, aged 20 and 24, from High Wycombe, were arrested yesterday (Sunday) on suspicion of GBH with intent.

Another man from High Wycombe, aged 19, was arrested today (Monday) also on suspicion of GBH with intent.

The 20-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled drug of class A – heroin and possession of a controlled drug of class B – cannabis/cannabis resin.

The men aged 20 and 24 were released under investigation. The 19-year-old man remains in police custody.
