A 21-year-old man was slapped with an £1,800 fine for fly-tipping.

It comes after Matthew George Cox-Dioulgeridis, of Minster Way, Slough, dumped waste at Nashdom Lane, Burnham, last year.

A waste investigator from Buckinghamshire County Council found cardboard packaging, packing tape and a plastic bag dumped at the side of the road, with a label addressed to Cox-Dioulgeridis found within the rubbish.

He admitted to fly-tipping, saying he had moved to a new house and ordered a new fridge-freezer. He said he had put the waste from the new appliance into his car, intending to take it to the household recycling centre when he found time.

He then said that as he drove along a rural area of Burnham on the way to visit his daughter, he decided to “solve his problem quickly” and dumped it at the side of the road.

He was fined £923 and ordered to pay £819 in prosecution costs, plus a £92 victim surcharge, making the total £1,834.

South Bucks District Council cabinet member for environment Luisa Sullivan, speaking on behalf of the Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire, said: “This man made a sudden decision to dump his waste in a country lane – an antisocial decision that cost him £1,800.”
