Buckinghamshire has been named the worst English county to retire in, in a new study.

The study revealed Bucks to be the worst in the country, with the third highest average house prices and the third highest crime rate in England.

Holiday home company Willerby carried out the study, analysing every county in England, looking at factors that would be important to a potential retiree, including life expectancy, house prices, hospital ratings, crime, happiness and population.

Bucks came at the bottom of the pile, with the third highest house prices at an average of £408,548, the third highest crime rate with 35 crimes per 1,000 people, the second lowest percentage of those aged 65 or over in the UK at 13.2 per cent and the second lowest reported happiness rating in England.

It scored 21.56 out of 100 in Willerby’s analysis.

Staffordshire came in at the top, with the third highest hospital ratings in the UK, reasonable average house prices compared to other counties, a low crime rate of 16 crimes per 1,000 people, a high reported happiness rating of 7.71 and a high percentage of those aged over 65 at 23.34 per cent.
