An RAF officer has been selected to showcase his work as a Featured Artist at the West Wycombe Art Group’s Summer Exhibition.
Squadron Leader John Ashton has been a member of the art group for more than 35 years and now his work will take pride of place at the exhibition over the bank holiday weekend.
Sqn Ldr Ashton used to navigate RAF Hercules Aircraft around the world, however he says his main hobby now is his art - which has been featured at the Mall Galleries in London and the Bucks Open Studios exhibitions across the county.
He said: “This is a real honour. Navigating aircraft was what I did when I was young, now my interest, outside my family, is my art.”
The officer first drew quick sketches and cartoons, which were popular with his RAF colleagues, and he now enjoys experimenting with line and colour and imaginative use of shapes and materials.
Sqn Leader Ashton hailed the diversity of his art group, from a mix of professional and serious artists, for his success in the creative word.
The exhibition, featuring artists from the West Wycombe Art Group at West Wycombe Village Hall, will run from 10am to 5pm on Friday, August 25 then 10am to 6pm on Sunday August 26 to Monday August 28.
