Engineers have been working throughout the night to repair a leak that forced a huge jet of water to shoot metres into the air - but the work is expected to continue until tomorrow afternoon.

There are currently two-way traffic lights in place on West Wycombe Road while Thames Water work to fix a burst water pipe.

Thames Water originally said they hoped the work would be completed today, but a statement from the company this afternoon says Thursday afternoon.

The leak - which resulted in water spraying metres up into the air - came from a 12 inch water main that is around two metres underground.

There are delays in the area while engineers fix the leak and temporary traffic lights are in place, with one-way use of the road.

A spokesman for the company, Lee Irving, apologised for the disruption and said that they received three calls from customers who reported no water or low pressure and the supply was restored to everyone yesterday afternoon.

He said: “We’re really sorry to anyone who’s been affected by the burst water main. We’ve had engineers on site since the burst was first reported to us on Tuesday evening carrying out the repair, and we expect to be finished by Thursday afternoon.

“The job is a complex one as we are waiting for a specialist part to fix the pipe, so we have installed temporary traffic lights to allow us to carry out the work.”

More as we get it.
