A major footbridge into Marlow is set to be taken away to be repaired, causing a busy dual carriageway to be closed in both directions over two weekends.

The A404 Volvo footbridge, which crosses over the busy dual carriageway into Marlow, will be taken off-site for the repairs, which means the A404 northbound and southbound carriageways will have to be closed off.

According to a letter from Highways England seen by the Marlow Free Press, the works are currently scheduled between 9pm on Friday, May 11, until 5am on Monday, May 14, as well as the same times between Friday, July 13, and Monday, July 16.

The traffic agency said for safety reasons, access to Parkway, which leads to the Globe Park industrial estate, will also be restricted while the footbridge is lifted away.

It wrote: “We understand that Parkway is the main access route into and out from the industrial estate and that Fieldhouse Lane has a width restriction in place which prevents heavy goods vehicles from accessing the estate from Newtown Road.

“Bearing in mind this issue and the potential wider impact of the A404 closure, we would be grateful if movements or vehicles wider than 6ft 6ins be made at alternative times.”

Temporary traffic lights will also be in place on Parkway, underneath the footbridge, in between the two weekend closures.
