Residents in Cookham are being asked how to maintain and enhance the village’s “unique character”.

The Cookham High Street Conservation Area will be reviewed, which will help inform planning applications in the conservation area.

A consultation has been launched by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead asking residents for their views on the proposal.

Cllr David Coppinger, cabinet member for planning and health (inc. sustainability), said: “We take our responsibility to protect our communities seriously.

“Cookham, like many of our communities, has a unique character, which needs to be maintained and enhanced.

“We have written to those living near the area to see what characteristics they value.

“This appraisal is about protecting and enhancing your community so please let us know what you value the most.”

The conservation area will be changing its name to The Cookham Village Conservation Area and covers the core of the medieval village which features 12 buildings dating back to the 14th, 15th and 16th Centuries.

The appraisal document and a questionnaire can be found at www3.rbwm.gov.uk/info/200207/conservation/1398/conservation_consultations. The consultation closes at midnight on July 15.
