A south Bucks horse charity has had a £1,000 cash boost thanks to a pet insurance company.

The Horse Trust, in Princes Risborough, was chosen as Animal Friends Pet Insurance’s (AFI) nominated charity after two of its staff members – sisters Emma and Zoe Hewlett – chose it in memory of their horse Boo, who died recently.

The donation was made in Boo’s name.

The pair said in a statement: “Orchidee, affectionately known as Boo, came to us in 1999 as our Mum’s hack and after a few years of mellowing became an amazing family pony.

“Her reputation preceded her at our local pony club and she provided us with countless memories, including accidentally jumping a Fiat Panda, all of which we remember fondly as a family.

“The time following her loss was incredibly hard after having had her with us for so long.

“We are thankful to Animal Friends for the support we received and very grateful for the opportunity to donate funds to The Horse Trust in her memory, we are certain she would have approved.”

Members of the AFI team visited the trust and were “struck” by the work being done there in rehabilitating and caring for horses.

Jeanette Allen, CEO of The Horse Trust, welcomed the donation, saying: “We are extremely grateful to Animal Friends Pet Insurance for their very generous gift.

“The Horse Trust relies on charitable donation to help us care for our country’s amazing retired service horses and ponies as well as those that come to us suffering from severe cruelty or neglect.

“Thank you so much.”
