Fraudsters pretending to be Chiltern District Council are trying to get unsuspecting residents to pay a fake fine for "poorly parked bins" in the street.
A resident found a fraudulent letter on their wheelie bin on Wednesday morning, complete with Chiltern District Council logo and contact details - but the council has warned that this letter is fake.
The letter claims the homeowner must pay a £500 fine for "failing to park a refuse collection bin in an orderly manner" on the street.
It also quotes the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and says the fine will be reduced to £250 if paid within 14 days.
The council said: "We have been made aware of a fraudulent letter being placed on a resident's wheelie bin claiming to be from us.
"The letter bears the Chiltern DC logo and appears to be issuing a £500 fine. If you receive one of these letters please don't be alarmed, it is fake."
