A SIX-CAR pile-up caused traffic chaos and long tailbacks on the M40 this morning.

The collision happened around 8.20am, between junctions five and four - Stokenchurch and Handy Cross - on the London-bound carriageway.

Police said no one was injured in the accident. There were delays to traffic in both directions on the motorway, which were blamed on motorists rubber-necking.

Three cars had to be cleared off the carriageway, causing delays for some time.
