HOMEOWNERS are being warned to be extra vigilant about security as the dark nights draw in.

Thames Valley Police says homeowners in South Bucks need to take extra care in the run up to Christmas, with the majority of burglaries occurring in the early evening. They say the main target for thieves is electrical goods.

Additional officers will be patrolling neighbourhoods during the Christmas and New Year period to tackle the problem.

They will be focusing on hot spots which have been targeted previously and will be offering home visits and specific crime prevention advice.

To help combat crime, free kits are being issued to householders containing an ultra-violet pen for marking valuables and a sticker warning intruders that items in the house have been coded. To obtain a kit telephone 01753 881938.
