MORE than 150 signatures have been gathered in an attempt to keep Tesco out of Bourne End.

Resident, Susan Knowles, started the petition in opposition to the Express store and two one-bedroomed and six two-bedroomed flats that the supermarket giant wants to build in The Parade, on the site of the old police house.

Mrs Knowles said in an email: "I have lived in Bourne End all my life and... I think the proposed development is ludicrous. The statement that we need this sort of shop is a lie."

She also believes the items the store will sell are available elsewhere in the village, adding: "How can anyone in their right minds think that we need another store selling the same goods?"

The petition is in the community centre.

Last week the Free Press reported that residents had a deadline of December 3 to get their views to Wycombe District Council.

The application and drawings can be viewed at the Bourne End Community Centre in Wakeman Road, or by visiting WDC planning website and quoting reference 07/07474/FUL.

Views can be submitted either online via the website, by emailing planning@ wycombe.gov.uk or by sending a letter to the planning officer at WDC.
