PEOPLE keen to go green buzzed their way around Chesham Town Hall in a bid to discover environmental tips.

More than 400 people turned out for the annual Green Fair on Saturday.

Groups who turned out for the event, which is run by the Chiltern Liberal Democrats, included the RSPB, Ramblers Association, Sustrans, and the Chiltern Society.

And for those with a sweet tooth, there was a Fairtrade honey stand.

The fair, now in its third year, was officially opened by Chesham Deputy Mayor Alison Pirouet.

Councillor Pirouet said: "The fair highlighted the importance of green issues locally and the positive steps that individuals can take to really make a difference."

At this year's event there was a renewable energy section demonstrating home technologies such as solar panels and micro wind turbines.

James Hoare, managing director of Ardenham Energy Ltd, said: "We met a large number of local residents eager to do their bit in the fight against climate change. Very few had heard about the Government's grant scheme offering householders up to £2,500 for solar, wind and other renewable energy installations. Local events such as the Green Fair are crucial in helping to get this message out to potential customers."

Councillor Peter Jones from Chiltern Liberal Democrats, said: "This was our best fair to date, reflecting growing public interest in green issues. We know from our door to door work that many local people already take issues such as recycling and saving energy very seriously, but want to do more. I'm delighted with the positive feedback from the many stall holders at the event and look forward to bringing the green fair back to Chesham in future years."
