THE Buckinghamshire countryside recording studio used by stars such as Oasis, George Harrision, Robbie Williams has been put up for sale.

Wheeler End Studio based at Huckenden Farm in Bolter End Lane, Wheeler End, has gone on the market for £3.9 million.

The 24-track residential recording studio has been on long-term let to Oasis for eight years, who recorded albums including Standing on the Shoulder of Giants and Heathen Chemistry there.

Other stars who have used the equipment to make their albums over the past three decades include Paul Weller, The Coral and Ian Brown, Dave Gilmour, Bill Wyman.

Noel Gallagher first used the studio in 1999 to record a demo and his band still rehearsed there until recently when he decided to relinquish his tenancy.

The property is owned by Suzanne Lee - former wife of rock and roll blues guitarist Alvin Lee of Ten Years After - who has told music industry magazines she hopes a buyer will continue to use it for producing music.

In a statement, Mrs Lee said: "After 27 years of running the studio, I am incredibly attached to Wheeler End, so selling it hasn't been the easiest of decisions to make. But the time has come to move on.

"What I want more than anything else is to see it sold to someone who intends to carry on using it as a recording studio and to preserve its amazing heritage and atmosphere."

Suzanne and Alvin Lee bought the 17th century farmhouse in 1980 and commissioned the studio to be designed. It became a commercial studio in 1994.

Mrs Lee added: "It wasn't a commercial studio to begin with, more an advanced music room where Alvin and his friends could record in comfort and in private. Artists are like that - they enjoy playing on each other's albums - so family friends like George Harrison and Joe Brown would often turn up to jam with Alvin and lay down a few tracks.

"Like Alvin, Noel has brought many friends here to record."

The 4.85 acre site includes the main farmhouse, which houses the studio, and a large barn across the courtyard to provide visiting artists with an inspirational rehearsal and relaxation area. Both have recently been renovated. Other outbuildings house garages, stables, workshops and storage areas.
