Welcoming movie crews to the town centre, more public events, a refreshed market and contactless giving points to deter begging - these are just some of the plans for High Wycombe over the next five years.

HWBIDCo, the organisation that represents hundreds of businesses in the town centre which has already made great strides towards improving the the town, is hoping to be re-elected for a third term and has revealed its plan for Wycombe over the next five years.

The plan focuses on tackling anti-social behaviour, making the town centre safer, greener and cleaner and making it more vibrant with even more events to attract shoppers.

The pedestrianisation of parts of the town - including the High Street, Church Street, Pauls Row and White Hart Street - has been a big talking point, with a successful trial last summer and BIDCo says it will continue to lobby for enhancements to be made.

A major issue with the town centre over the years has been "persistent" begging and anti-social behaviour, especially in White Hart Street and Frogmoor - and HWBIDCo will look to install contactless giving points to deter begging and raise cash for support charities.

They are also trying to get the town centre 'purple flag' certified, making it safe and welcoming for those on a night out in Wycombe.

Expanding the calendar of events in the town centre is also a priority. HWBIDCo is already responsible for successful events like the Christmas lights switch on, the Desborough Carnival and FrogFest, as well as special and vegan markets, and they want to bring even more to the town.

They also manage public space under the Guildhall and in Frogmoor and they are planning to "better utilise" it and raise cash - through things like filming.

Making the charter market - which has come in for criticism over the years - a "key destination" is also on the cards, as well as attracting more speciality markets to town.

Businesses will be able to vote on whether they want HWBIDCo to continue representing them in a ballot beginning on June 9.

Melanie Williams, the chief executive of HWBIDCo, said: "Launched in 2012, we’ve invested thousands of pounds in local projects and events which improve the environment the businesses we represent operate in and increase footfall.

"We provide bespoke training and business support and customise our offering based on our BID levy payers’ feedback on an ongoing basis.

"This means we offer a holistic approach to raising the bar in terms of how our town is managed so visitors see the benefits of having an attractive place for businesses to trade in and attract talent to the area, while the wider community experiences a greener, brighter, safer place to live, work and shop.

"We are asking businesses to vote yes so we can deliver this much needed work in the town centre."
