A couple’s special Buckinghamshire wedding was made even more memorable thanks to a visit from sociable four-legged entertainers.

When Maia and Matt Mills were planning their big summer wedding celebration in the grounds of Stowe School, they hatched a plan to invite glamorous four-legged guests from a Buckinghamshire farm.

After arriving in a helicopter and saying her vows in a glamorous gown with a two-metre train, 26-year-old Maia from Croydon, London, surprised her guests with an afternoon of pig racing on the lawns at the historic National Trust property in Buckingham.

Maia said: “We really wanted some kind of animal event during the day, and I saw something online about pig racing, but we wanted to get into the pens and pet the pigs too, and not many providers offer that.

"But then I got in touch with Kew Little Pigs, which is also in Buckinghamshire like Stowe, and Olivia and her team were so helpful taking us through everything.

"When you are planning a wedding, you just need people to set out what they are going to do, and give you advice, and that's exactly what they did, it went perfectly."

Named after famous Viking folklore heroes, tiny pigs Freya, Loki and Thor brought a smile to everyone’s face during the pig racing session, with guests placing bets who they thought would win.

The newlyweds Maia and investment consultant Matt got into the piggy pen to stroke and the pet the animals, and to pose for unique weddings snaps.

Maia said: "I didn't really expect the pigs to be really good at the racing, and that made watching them even funnier, almost making it to the finish line and then getting distracted.

"It was also adorable to see the pigs playing and jostling with each other. It was a brilliant part of a brilliant day."

After the pig racing was over, the guests partied into the early hours, enjoying further entertainment from a magician, live music and a DJ and fireworks.

On the menu was a mix of the couple's favourites, Greek and traditional Caribbean food.

Olivia Mikhail, owner of Kew Little Pigs in Amersham, said: "Loki, Thor Freya, and the Kew Little Pigs team absolutely loved being part of Maia and Matt's special day, and congratulations to a wonderful couple.

"Events like this are always a high point in our year, and the pigs love getting out and about to meet people and show what they can do.

"Our pigs are very friendly and sociable as they live at the Kew Little Pigs attraction, so love a fuss and human interactions. They love to be brushed and stroked, so really enjoyed the day."

Kew Little Pigs was recently awarded the Pig Farm of the Year award at the Corporate Livewire Awards thanks to its personal touch, community feel and passion.
