EGYPTIAN belly-dancing, Brazilian football and a medieval battle re-enactment are set to come to Gerrards Cross at its first multicultural day.

A community event, 'Our fun-tastic world', will celebrate cultures, arts and sports from around the world in the village on June 29.

South Bucks District and Gerrards Cross Parish Councillor Sabeeha Khan, came up with the idea.

She said: "In today's increasingly multicultural society, it is great for all members of the community to understand the different traditions that each culture brings to the area."

The family event will also feature Bollywood dancing, karate and storytelling.

Face painting and mask-making with help from artists is set to take place before a fancy dress parade.

A re-enactment of an English medieval battle scene will provide a finale on the day.

Cllr Khan added: "Our fun-tastic world' offers a wonderful opportunity for adults and children to find out more about different cultures through this fun event that will bring the community together."

The free event, which will also feature refreshments from around the globe, takes place at the Gerrards Cross Memorial Centre, in East Common between 1pm to 4pm.

Bookings from community and cultural groups who would like to participate in the day and businesses are being encouraged to get involved. For more information contact Emma Talbot on 01895 837306.
