COURAGE and sacrifice were on the minds of a reflective crowd at Remembrance Sunday services across the county today.

Communities came together right across Buckinghamshire to honour the heroes who paid the ultimate sacrifice and gave their life for their country.

Streets and town centres were packed with people proudly wearing their poppies to stand shoulder to shoulder during services up and down the county, including services in High Wycombe's town centre, Marlow, Chesham, Aylesbury, and more.

In High Wycombe's town centre, crowds watched on as a procession of veterans, service personnel and cadets proudly marched through the High Street to the war memorial at All Saints Church. Wreaths were laid and the town fell silent at the stroke of 11am. A restricted service was held at the church afterwards for guests only due to coronavirus precautions.

Bucks Council staged a service of remembrance in Aylesbury where wreath-laying was done in the town's Market Square.

The service included words from Father Doug Zimmerman, a reading by Aylesbury Branch of RBL Vice Chairman Mr Brian Morris, and familiar hymns and readings by other civic dignitaries.

Also attending the service were representatives from the British Army, Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, Royal British Legion, Ellesborough Silver Band, veterans and community organisations including the Scouts, Brownies and Cadets.

A number of personnel, dignitaries, community groups, organisations, and youth groups were also out in force

in Chesham to pay their respects on Remembrance Sunday. The Chesham Bois Parish Council procession was held at St Leonard’s Church to the Chesham Bois War Memorial where wreaths were laid and the two-minute silence observed.

Soup and rolls followed in the parish centre after the service.

Elsewhere, in Marlow a procession made its way along the Causeway from the Royal British Legion headquarters to the memorial. Deputy Lieutenant Air Vice Marshall Chris Elliot took the Salute this year as wreaths were laid and respect paid during the two-minute silence.
