An ill man and his family have pleaded with a housing provider after years long battle with mould.

Roy Hamilton, 54, is struggling to breath properly as he tried to explain the dire situation he’s in.

The Prestwood resident is ill with bronchitis, which he says is caused by mould found all over his home on Wright’s Lane. Roy’s only family is in Chesham, and he has pleaded with Paradigm Housing for a house swap to be closer to his niece.

Roy explained: “I’m so frustrated that I can’t even speak. It’s been like h**l.

“I moved here in 2015, and the mould came back in 2016. It’s kept coming back ever since.”

“I was ill last year with pneumonia and bronchitis, because my house is mouldy.

“It’s ridiculous.”

Currently mould had infested his bedroom, bathroom and hallway. His toilet had to be redone once because it was “green with mould”.

It’s all a load of rubbish," exhausted Roy said.

First time he reported the mould, Paradigm Housing told him to open his windows.

“Then you’re told you’ve not opened the windows enough, you don’t do this and that enough,” Roy said.

He felt Paradigm was blaming him for drying his laundry indoors, despite it not always being possible to hang it outside.

“The guy who lived in this flat for 40 years had the same problem with mould. Forty years!”

Despite the situation, Roy was trying to take “every day as it comes.”

Paradigm Housing had booked repairs in February, including replacing the walls and hardboard, but Roy wasn’t confident about the impact.

“They’re hoping it’s going to help.”

His niece told how they desperately want her uncle to be moved to Chesham.

She said: “He’s got nothing.

“Paradigm has so many problems, it’s not just him. It’s always a battle with them. We have doctor’s letters for him.

“All I’m asking for is for him to be moved to Chesham.”

Roy, who has other health problems and can’t currently drive, hoped the move would happen “sooner rather than later.”

He is waiting for an operation on his leg, and trying to get around on buses was going to be a struggle.

A spokesperson for Paradigm Housing said in a statement: “We are aware of some issues with Mr Hamilton’s home, we have already carried out a number of repairs and have further works booked in for the New Year. We will continue to support Mr Hamilton and work with him to get the best outcome for his circumstances.”
