A FISH and chip shop owner has been left feeling "distraught" after a man broke into his takeaway stealing the till and safe.

Ashish Bhardwaj spoke to the Bucks Free Press providing shocking CCTV footage of the night the burglary took place at the Corner Plaice in Mill End Road.

Police said they are investigating the burglary, which happened at 1.55am on Wednesday, December 28.

Mr Bhardwaj said: "I've never faced anything like this before it was such a shock to the system. The guy was in and out in two minutes, he knew where my till was. I'm hoping it's not very personal, I hope its random."

In the video, a man is seen crawling underneath the door and then running straight to the till area.

Within a matter of seconds, he unhooks the till and then looks inside the cupboard underneath to find a safe with £700 in cash.

Then he runs back with the till and safe in his hands and drives off.

"I have a resident living above and he said he heard a loud bang, a guy across the road even heard it - he parks his van on the drive and thought someone hit his van.

"It was a big thing for the local community because nothing like this has ever happened.

"When I look at the footage the guy looked ready for it and not drunk or anything, he drove the car and when he walked he was quite quick."

Mr Bhardwaj has owned Corner Plaice since 2008 when he took on the previous fish and chip shop.

He described the takeaway in  Mill End Road as his "bread and butter" and feels blessed to have amazing support from the community.

“I was very distraught when I came here at 2am. I used to run the other Corner Plaice before I opened the new one, so ive been running the shop since 2008. My local community loves me as a person and the shop as well, thankfully I'm blessed so they were upset and sympathetic and comforting to me. When we opened, people were happy we were open."

Mr Bhardwaj said the burglary left him with £3,000 worth of damage and was unable to open the takeaway until January 4.

Thames Valley Police confirmed a till and safe were taken.

A spokesman said: "An investigation is ongoing, no arrests have been made.

"Anyone with information can contact police by calling 101 or online, quoting reference 43220579104."
