International Women's Day is a global holiday celebrating women's achievements in the workplace, cultural and political spheres and the sporting world.

Tomorrow, Wednesday March 8, events are popping up all over the world to highlight women's roles in every industry and area you can think of.

If you haven't yet dipped a toe into the wide realm of International Women's Day celebrations, have no fear.

We've done the research for you and compiled a short list of the five best ways to spend your IWD.

Whether it's trying out a new sport, learning a new practical skill or trying out new ways to improve your mental health, there's no shortage of options.

With the various events spanning all times of the day, and some slated for later in the coming months, you'll find something that appeals below no matter what your schedule.

Chilterns' International Women's Day Conference

What is it?

The Chalk, Cherries and Chairs Landscape Partnership are holding a conference for working women in the Chilterns area which will span the whole day from 9am to 6pm. 

Female experts in trades such as weaving, sculpting and historical research will present and demonstrate throughout the conference, proving that agriculture and trade are far from being a purely male domain.

When is it?

The conference will take place in and around the historic Missenden Abbey, an 800-year-old medieval building in the heart of the Chilterns on Wednesday, March 8. It will run between 9am and 6pm, with tickets ranging from free to £12. They can be bought here.

Princes Risborough International Women's Day Event

What is it? 

The Princes Risborough Town Council are holding their first ever IWD event, with an evening of talks from a panel of inspirational women from health and welfare backgrounds. 

Speakers include Suzanne Shaw, founder of the Happy Health Club, Jane Robinson, social historian, and Nadia Finer, the UK's leading expert in shyness and author of the book 'Shy and Mighty'.

When is it?

The event will be held at the Brushwood Suite in Princes Risborough on Wednesday March 8, with doors opening at 7pm for a 7:30pm start time. Tickets cost £7 and are available here

 

Berks & Bucks Football Association's International Women's Day Workshop

What is it?

Berks and Bucks FA will hold an International Women's Day workshop on Wednesday, focused on celebrating the achievements of local female players. The Association are also encouraging the presence of new attendees who'd like to get into the game.

When is it?

A little further afield for those confined to the Bucks area, the Football Association's workshop will take place at Reading FC's Select Car Leasing Stadium from 7 to 8:30pm. Free entry is worth travelling a little way for!

Rally Together event at Aylesbury squash club

What is it?

Another opportunity to try out a new sport, the Aylesbury Tennis and Squash Club are holding a 'Rally Together' event this Saturday, where local women are encouraged to try a free squash lesson with the club's head coach. All equipment will be provided, you just need to show up with a good attitude!

When is it?

The event will take place on Saturday, March 11, at County Ground in Aylesbury. Sessions will run from 11:15am and from 12:15pm. Check out more information here.

In Your Element Festival, Marlow

What is it?

A little further down the line, this is a late celebration of International Women's Day that you may want to mark in your diaries. The In Your Element women's wellness festival will set up shop in Marlow in early May, hosting a range of experts in issues around female health and wellbeing. Yoga classes, pop-up stores and art classes are just some of the bonuses on offer. Find out more here.

When is it?

The festival will be held on May 13 in central Marlow, with classes, talks and workshops taking place in stores along St Peter street and the high street. Tickets range between free and £60 and can be purchased here.
