Clothing retailer M&Co is closing its Marlow store today, after announcing the company would cease operation entirely over the coming months.

High street chain M&Co said it would close all 170 of its UK stores this year after the business went into administration for the second time in December.

The brand was bought by AK Retail but negotiations did not include a continuation of the M&Co store, online or in its high street presence.

In a post on social media in February, M&Co said: "Unfortunately, we haven't received the news we would have hoped for during our administrative period.

"As we haven't received any funded, deliverable offers that would result in the transfer of the company's stores or staff to a potential buyer, this means that all of our stores will close.

"The M&Co brand has been purchased but unfortunately this does not inclide a future for our stores, website or staff."

M&Co officially ceased trading in its online store on March 24, announcing the news via social media and thanking customers for their loyalty and support.

The retailer's former location, at 3 Market Square in Marlow, won't stay empty for long, however.

Plans were approved last November for a new Wetherspoons pub in the building which neighbours the Old Crown Hotel at the top of Marlow's high street.

The new branch of the national pub chain will be called The Brass Thimble, with planning proposals suggesting it will create 50 to 60 new job opportunities and "be beneficial to the vitality and viability of the town centre".
