A frustrated driver has raised the alarm over ‘dangerous’ potholes in his neighbourhood.

Chalfont St Peter resident John Davies fears it’s only a matter of time his car will be damaged by potholes when driving around Buckinghamshire.

Last week, Bucks Free Press readers named the worst roads in the county.

Kingsmead Road, The Pastures, New Road, Totteridge Road and Windrush Drive and North Links Road were mentioned for their poor state.

Mr Davies said “the worst” pothole was the junction of Nicol Road and Lovel Road which is “approximately 10 inches deep so a 'Failed Surface' sign and a bucket was placed in it to prevent drivers going over it.”

“I think the Council needs to dig deep (excuse the pun) and spend money as the worse the potholes get, the more likely it  is to cause damage to cars leading to the Council having to pay out in insurance claims.

“I’ve yet to have damage to my car but it won't be long I think,” he continued.

Wycombe MP Steve Baker recently highlighted the danger of potholes to all road users, saying he would like to see “perfect roads everywhere.”

Buckinghamshire Council’s deputy cabinet member for HS2/EWR said: “We are aware of these specific potholes in Chalfont St Peter and agree that these are significant issues that need urgent repairs.

“Unfortunately, the prolonged freezing and wet winter weather had a significant impact on our roads, resulting in an increase of potholes.

"However, we are investing heavily in repairing and maintaining our roads, including recently announcing an extra £5m specifically for this purpose.

“In this particular case, the area involved is too large and too broken up for a temporary repair to work. A more permanent fix has been ordered and will be issued as soon as possible, but we are aware that this is not an isolated issue.

"We are managing a record number of defects at the moment, and are doing our best to carry out the most urgent repairs as quickly as we can."

“We are still prioritising potholes based on safety and roll out temporary repairs to ensure the resident’s safety when needed. We have started on our Spring and Summer programme of more permanent repairs this week, and residents will see these works ramping up over the coming months.

“We’d urge residents to continue reporting any potholes on FixMyStreet and thank all drivers on their patience.”
